The best of our 10 years in independent publishing has been curated in this epic edition… Welcome to one small seed magazine / issue 29 / digital 04. Going through the pages of 25 print magazines and our three digital issues to select the content has left us smiling, laughing, lingering and certainly remembering–and we have no doubt it’ll do the same for you!

Making use of our digital magazine features, we have been able to breathe new life to previous print content – and everything has truly come together, just how we always envisioned! Please take your time to go through this magazine (all at once or a little bit each day) as a lot of work went into producing every edition and every page, since we first launched in 2005. This issue is a superlative balance of content, comprising of traditional and contemporary art, photography, fashion editorials, exclusive interviews, videos, feature articles, music, and the best of one small seed TV.

Vienna Time-Lapse 2012 / 2013 (Hyperlapse)

Now here’s a time-lapse (or rather, ‘hyperlapse’) that must have involved quite a bit in the way of post-production in order get it to work with the background music as well as it does. Shot over 14 days within a three-month period, the three-minute film offers an awesome time-lapse view of Austria’s capital city, Vienna.

On the technical side of things, the 16,023-photo time-lapse was taken using two Canon T3i’s, one Canon T2i, four tripods, one Gorilla tripod, a Pocketslider and Magic Lantern. And once it was shot, creators Thomas Pöcksteiner, Piotr Jablonowski and Fabian Orner had to spend 48 hours post-processing the photos and 40 hours editing the final video.

Interview with The Wailers

Famous Reggae band The Wailers graced our shores for a quick visit in Cape Town to play a very special charity gig in aid of the Rhino Protect initiative. The ‘Stand Up’ event was on the 27th April Friday at Trinity Night Club with support acts being Fox Comet and The Rudimentals. one small seed had the privilege of meeting up with the two front men of The Wailers to ask them a few questions. | Elektronik Dialogues | Tommy Gun

With the colours of the Bo-Kaap in our periphery, one small seed caught up with local electronic DJ – Tommy Gun – to talk about indie-electro music, the Cape Town music scene, and what inspired his unique rock-influenced electro style. We also had the chance to see the man at work at Trinity night club where he moved the crowd to his funky, vocal electro beats mixed with some heavy bass-lines.

After kicking off the day with a drink at the Wale Rose Lifestyle restaurant, we moved on to snoop through LPs at the local music store Mabu Vinyl in Kloof Street and drive around the city in Tommy’s 1970 Green Rocket. For Thomas de Moyencourt it’s about fun and catchy nu-disco beats mixed with dancey bass-lines; it’s about him being able to do what he loves.

Tommy Gun’s beats could be described as Leftfield Indie, Nu-Disco and Electro: non-commercial, yet accessible… Check out his SoundCloud page. A regular at Cape Town’s best live-music venues The Assembly and Trinity, he spent 2011 playing around the country at festivals such as Oppikoppi, Rocking the Daisies and Synergy Live. Thomas has also shared the stage alongside top international artists such as Deadmau5, Datarock and Designer Drugs; as well as local artists like Desmond & The Tutus, Die Heuwels Fantasies, Jack Parrow and Gazelle.

I’m super amp’d about the April re-opening of a freshly-renovated Fiction and the revival of the weekly Untamed Youth parties.

one small seed TV presenter, Dene Botha, chatted to some of the guys taking part in the action that day, including wakeboarder, Craig Eygenberger; skateboarder, Dlamini Dlamini (the youngest of the three Dlamini brothers) ; and fmx-rider, who holds the world record for the highest jump on a motorcycle, Alastair Sayer. Dene also got up close with Daniel from Mob ink and Tino, the event vehicle driver, who was in charge of keeping those beats pumping and a good vibe flowing. Good job on that one Tino!

Presented by Absa Life Xtreme, the Ultimate X 2012 festival will hit Cape Town 18 February 2012. Read on to find out how to win a hamper with Ultimate X and one small seed!

Action sports, in this context, refers to BMX (Bicycle Motocross), FMX (Freestyle Motocross), skateboarding and wakeboarding. Kitesurfing might also be an action sport, but it was not specified as so in the release. An elite platform is an elite platform is an elite platform. This festival, the Ultimate X festival is an elite platform, one for action and sports–action sports.

Cape Town’s V&A Waterfront will be transformed into an extreme sporting paradise with ‘death-defying’ stunts and ‘dare-devil’ twists. The event is presented by Absa Life Xtreme and you can expect to pay R100 at the gate, or R40 if you are under four years old. To save some cash purchase tickets ahead of time on computicket for R80.

Three bars, various lounges, grandstands, viewing decks, stalls and top SA DJs from Skullcandy will showcase the Full Alternative Lifestyle Aspects of the industry, according to the Ultimate X festival presented by Absa Life Xtreme’s Facebook page. Bring Alternative Lifestyle to the Absa Life Xtreme Ultimate X festival this season.

Three full service bars will be available and Skullcandy headphones will present top S.A. DJs who will take the beats to all the festival goers and the bars will ‘keep guests hydrated, hyped and entertained.’ Those who were there last year can surely agree to this claim. We certainly can. The event is about more than good tunes and beer, or vodka and tequila mixed with Jaeger and a tiny bit of lemon juice though. It’s not really about that at all. It is about the Ultimate, the ‘X’! It is the ULTIMATE X festival (note: ‘festival’ not capitalized). The kings and queens of extreme will be performing! How extreme is that? It’s like, way extreme.
