The 37-year-old English artist M.I.A (real name Mathangi “Maya” Arulpragasam) is well known for her controversial and provocative techniques. Unwilling to be swayed by the media, she has firmly expressed her views in shocking and intriguing ways. With aggressive lyrics and catchy beats M.I.A. has carved a permanent and revered spot in music history. Steve Loveridge has just released the trailer for his in-depth documentary that delves into the complicated life and career of M.I.A. From her upbringing to political unrest caused by her music, Loveridge gives a candid behind-the-scenes look into one of the most contentious artists today.

Essence of the Urban Hippie

Damien Krisl is no stranger to the fashion scene. After winning numerous awards for his film Amphitrite his latest short film Urban Hippie is expected to make a splash as well. The short film tells the story of a young girl in love shrouded by her own feelings and imagination. Through explosions of colours and flashes into her imagination the viewer is transported deep into her mind. The sweet ethereal voice of Sigur Ros brings together the elements of nature and soft natural lighting captured beautifully by Krisl and co-director Joel Cartier. (Length: 02:38)

Ever wondered, ‘What if graffiti could move?’ Daniel Silva’s short video Mosteiro de Santa Clara answers that question as walls and rooms come to life with exuberant colours moving in elegant smoke patterns. (Length: 01:56)

Silva captured footage of the famous Monastery of Santa Clara in Portugal and transformed the dilapidated building into a creative masterpiece. Colourful plumes of smoke converge on walls set to the clever pluckings of Portugese Berimbau instruments. Mushroom clouds shroud plain white walls and broken windows to breathe life back into the ramshackle structure that was once full of life. If these walls could talk they would undoubtedly have plenty to say and Silva is giving Santa Clara its voice back in this video.
