Welcome to our 30th issue of one small seed magazine in collaboration with PUMA!!!

30 is a big number. Most of us actually feel grown up for the first time at 30. The age where you finally understand who you are and what you want in life. Hence the content choice for this issue titled “Originality Through Details”.

The world is turning fast and often we ask ourselves, ‘how much must we follow technology or how far must we remain true to our heart and our passion(s). In this edition, we made a great selection of highly talented people from Modena, New York and Berlin to Hong Kong and back who, in our view, are individuals mastering the balance of craftsmenship, detail, passion and an occasional touch of technology, in a perfect manner. ‘It’s not about the amount of tools you have, but how you use them […] how you create with your heart,’ says Riccardo Moretti from LegoLoop. Indeed. If we look at Paolo Nutini, who has millions of views on YouTube and played with the Rolling Stones, but does not even know his password for his Twitter account. In our interview, Nutini tells us: ‘It’s all about the music, man.’ And he is right.

Then we found you a little gem francais, who, and believe me on this one, will go places as a street artist. Levalet, who brings the streets of Paris alive, also strongly believes that people should be able to create with their hands. In 1962, a new literary art magazine was published by poet and activist Ed Sanders in the Lower East Side of New York. Andy Warhol (full pdf can be downloaded on the inside), and lots of other iconic names, was a guest contributor for this ‘zine called “Fuck You” / A Magazine of the Arts.

So yes, let’s say ‘Fuck you! ’Fuck you to too much technology taking over our lives… our freedom.

SOUNDGARDEN OFFICIALLY COME BACK WITH THEIR NEW ALBUM KING ANIMAL

8.2 million-record-selling Seattle band Soundgarden‘s new album King Animal comes out on November 12th amongst the come-back spirit of this year.

2012 appears to be the year of grandpa-rocker reunions. Is it the nigh end of the Mayan Calendar or the general fear of remaining wrinkly musicians of an era parents can relate best to? Be that as it may, at least four bands who peaked once upon a time have announced new releases. ‘What a drag it is getting old’ is a line the Rolling Stones might have recalled before deciding to bring out another Greatest Hits album entitled Grrr! – out November 12th. It includes their very first single ‘Come On’ as well as their last recordings ‘Gloom And Doom’ and ‘One More Shot’.

Others are more courageous and have announced the launch of new material. ’80s alternative rockers Dinosaur Jr‘s third album, after J Mascis and Lou Barlow’s beef loosened up in 2005, I Bet On Sky hit the stores on September 18th.

Stone Roses fans have to wait a bit longer and, alas, put up with the risk of the band not outliving their life expectancy. The release of the UK Manchester music scene members after they split up 16 years ago is set for post-apocalyptic 2013.

Also latching on to the come-back spirit are influential grunge band Soundgarden with a recent recording. King Animal is co-produced by Adam Kasper, known for his work with the Foo Fighters, Nirvana and Pearl Jam and is available on November 12th. Reunited in 2010, the latter’s contemporaries re-released an old single ‘Hunted Down’ with the song ‘Nothing to Say’, headlined Lollapalooza and released Telephantasm: A Retrospective to prepare their fans’ eardrums for their new rock creations.

Let’s hope the alt-rockers’ musical veins have kept the quality alive and the album doesn’t turn out to be a flop. Sadly, greed for instant reinstatement of fame allows this to happen way too often. Watch out for the first single ‘Been Away Too Long’ on September 27th. Until then here’s a little musical titbit on youtube:

New York City’s Symbolic Collection gallery – one of the world’s greatest collections of 20th Century pop culture – presents a collection of fine art works by legendary music icon and Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood. The exhibition – Faces, Time and Places - premiered on Monday 9 April and will run until 30 June 2012.

Ronnie Wood. A name most of know as being the lead guitarist to legendary rock ‘n roll band Rolling Stones. What we might not know is that Ronnie Wood is an artist and has been practicing painting, drawing and printmaking for over 35 years.

I apply musical theory to his art. I build limited edition silk screen prints in much the same way as studio overdubs, the more defined ones are things that stand out in the mix. (ronniewoodexhibition.com)

Music is ‘an art…’ This could not be truer for Wood. His subjects are his friends, his family, and his music. In many mediums, he has captured legendary rock n’ roll, pop and rhythm & blue performers including Jimi Hendrix, Chuck Berry, Jim Morrison, Elvis Presley, Bob Marley, Eric Clapton, John Lennon and Madonna.

Ronnie Wood’s current art exhibition, entitled Faces, Time and Places, coincides with this weekend’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio, where Wood will be celebrated for his pioneering influence as a guitarist for rock band The Faces. It was in 1989 for The Rolling Stones when he was first inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

With assistance by Brandon Coburn, the art exhibited was selected by Wood himself and will take the viewer on a voyage that is both intimate and full of rhythm. A candid rock ’n roll retrospective, Faces, Time and Places is Wood documenting the evolving world of popular culture, a world that is often centered on fame and music – from the ’60s until the present.

The exhibition includes paintings, drawings and limited-edition prints available for sale, many of never having been showcased to the public. One of the gems is a 1979 drawing of Woods, Mick Jagger and Keith Richards.

About this, Wood says: ‘Jagger is very hard to capture… I like the challenge.’ (CBS News)

Talking about challenges, and liking them, the Stones’ studio days are not yet over. According to Wood, ‘the band is heading back to the studio this month to toss around ideas and try new material.’ (CBN News)

In fact, 2012 marks the 50th anniversary for the Stones. Wood’s been voicing his hope for a tour – one that would not only celebrate this half-century milestone, but also pay tribute to the fans worldwide.

GUITAR LEGEND Michael “Würzel” Bursten DIES AT 61

The Rolling Stones pay a tweet tribute to the late Michael Bursten. “We’re sad to report that former Motörhead guitarist Michael “Würzel” Bursten has died at the age of 61. RIP.” reads the tweet. The legendary guitarist and former co-writer to the Motörhead band was born 23 October 1949 and sadly died 9 July 2011, allegedly attributed to a heart disease.

The first of his nine album’s being the 1984’s No Remorse to 1995’s Sacrifice with the Motörhead band. The talented guitarist performed with different bands including Warhead and the punk group Splodgenessabounds. The Motörhead’s drummer, Mikkey Dee shared with Swedish newspaper Expressen, “(He was) more rock and roll, than all of us put together. He was wonderful, he was really funny. There was a lot of rock and roll in the old man.” The band too paid homage at Sonisphere – “We’d like to dedicate this set and our lives to Würzel”.

Michael Bursten served as a corporal in the British Army and there nicknamed “Würzel”. It stuck due to his characteristic features resembling that of the scarecrow in Worzel Gummidge, the children’s British TV show. Notably late Michael “Würzel” Bursten’s career took off at age 35 from builder in earning an audition to fill the spot of Brian “Robbo” Robertso from Motörhead. He made his debut featuring as the fourth member of British Motörhead band while appearing in the cult comedy sitcom, The Young Ones.

Würzel had an unforgetable meeting with the Rolling Stones at the 100 Club in London. Ian “Lemmy” Kilmister of Motörhead, describes the incident, “Würzel ran down there, all excited, and, just as he comes to the bottom (basement) , Bill Wyman (the Stones bassist) comes along, and he hits him full-on and lands him flat on his back … Great start to the evening, you know? ‘Hello, Bill, I’ve always been a fan of yours. Oh sorry, have I knocked you out?'”

This memorable guitarist was recording with Leader of Down – recently formed before his passing. Michael “Würzel” Bursten, a legend from his Motörhead days continues to be celebrated.

Below Würzel can still be seen performing with the headbanging Motörhead band to Steal Your Face (Live Birthday Party ’85) before separating in 1995.
