The Boers at the End of the World: Teaser from The Good Work Picture Company on Vimeo. In the early 1900s, 600 Afrikaner Boers set off on a move to a remote corner of Patagonia to start a new life. Lured by the prospect of free land and a new life away from colonial British rule, the small Afrikaner community settled in the Spanish-speaking town of Sarmiento, Argentina. To this day, the Afrikaaners still sell melktert in the local shop and play a catchy rendition of ‘Suikerbossie’ on the accordion, however there are fewer and fewer individuals able to speak the taal as older generations die off. Cape Town film maker Richard Finn Gregory, set out to capture the daily struggles of this diminishing community in his film, ‘The Boers at the End of the World’, explaining that ‘As soon as I heard this story, I knew it was an amazing one’. The phenomenal story of the 1903 Afrikaner settlers is set to be released in the middle of 2015, as Patagonian winters are not welcoming to film-makers. For the moment, we tempt you with the intriguing trailer that is getting a lot of locals talking.
