The PUMA SELECT Tennis collection for S/S15 is modelled by Boris Becker’s son, Noah, quietly retaining the authentic roots to the PUMA Archive while becoming relevant to the fashion and streetwear consumer. The collection re-invigorates PUMA’s historic Tennis category that is now firmly positioned within lifestyle. He walks the tennis court with his dad and strolls through the streets of London looking fresh as funk. Browsing with hungry eyes through a record store, Noah Becker aims to form his own legacy – in music. A gentleman with grit and grace, Noah speaks from the heart, unpretentious and with reverence, about his father…

When my dad played, he gave it everything he had – he was athletic, determined… agile … He had the energy and self-belief that most people never have… and he never gave up’

In the mid-1960s adidas‘ iconic Stan Smith tennis shoe was developed for French player Robert Haillet, by the start of the 70s Stan Smith‘s name was added to the sneaker and went on to become adorned with the trademark silhouetted image of Smith’s moustachioed face on the tongue of every pair. It was there when he won titles in major tournaments, including the 1968 U.S. Open, 1970 Autralian Open and 1972 Wimbledon titles. Yet more importantly, it evolved into a revered style icon beloved for its clean, streamlined aesthetic by designers, editors and collectors alike. And now it’s back! Now available in South Africa, the return of this global fashion icon has been re-invigorated and updated. The shoe stays true to its heritage in style and form but has been shaped and updated for multipurpose modern-day wear. Various international and local influencers such as Will Arnett, Max Greenfield, athletes Andy Murray and Derrick Rose, singer-songwriter Sky Ferreira and DJ Terranova, as well as local fashion authorities, Jackie Burger, Crystal Birch and Keith Henning will give their opinion on this icon to demonstrate the shoe’s versatile, wide-reaching appeal.
