Neill Blomkamp’s new film Chappie, set to release on the 6th March 2015, stars a stellar local and international cast. The South African homegrown talent includes Sharlto Copley, Ninja and Yo-Landi Vi$$er, and international stars include Hugh Jackman (sporting a mullet haircut) and Sigourney Weaver.

Chappie tells the story of

The first robot with the ability to think and feel for himself. His life, his story, will change the way the world looks at robots and humans forever. Youtube

Hang on… It seems that this sci-fi comedy fits into the impressive continuum of self-perpetuating movie robots – with specific reference to Short Circuit, 1986, and the robot #5.

After being struck by thunder, #5- originally designed as a military weapon, develops a mind of his own with human emotions and intelligence. Sound familiar?

Eduardo Salles’ quirky and colourful illustrations do more than provide a good laugh. The Mexican illustrator and designer’s series entitled ‘Cinismo Ilustrado’ (‘Cynicism Illustrated’) uses satire to confront ideas of religion, politics, the environment, and popular trends in the 21st century.

One poster depicts what looks like a homeless man begging for facebook ‘likes’, another with the words: ‘Life is what happens to you while you’re looking at your smartphone’.

Salles aptly sums it all up with the poster ‘Icons that f**k up your day’: most of us know what it feels like to have one bar of wifi signal, or to wait for that double tick on whatsapp.

Another poster entitled ‘Run Pistorius Run’, depicts a blindfolded person carrying a sword and the scales of justice, running after a man with prosthetic blades for his legs. Enough said…

Yes, these paintings actually breathe…

It’s really hard trying to figure out what makes Alexa Meade’s paintings literally alive! There are no telltale signs in the actual paintings, until you see how the artworks are created.

Los Angeles-based, Alexa Meade’s paintings are not only aesthetically beautiful in a traditional sense, but as you scroll down and find out how they are really made, you’ll see that they are also a clever manipulation of reality…

As you can see the paintings are not traditional at all! Meade’s brushes do not stroke normal canvases, but fall directly on her subjects – transforming 3D reality into a 2D expressionistic piece of art.

There are a lot of things in this world that we take as a complete given, but we don’t necessarily stop to take that step to think, ‘OK, well what is actually underlying all of this?’

Meade’s success story has led her to giving a TED talk and shows at London’s Saatchi Gallery and the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery. In 2014 she partnered up with Denim & Supply Ralph Lauren for their #ProjectWarehouse campaign where entrants stood a chance to win a trip to Meade’s studio to become her next living painting.

Cassper Nyovest, South African recording artist and producer, released the official music video for ‘I Hope You Bought it’ from his debut album Tsholofelo in December 2014. It has, so far, received 77,008 views on Youtube and 1,238 thumbs up!

The video shows the process of airbrushing the Tsholofelo album cover, to show that:

Taylor Swift is “obsessed” with Nashville musicians’ mash-up!

All it takes is a little Taylor Swift magic to make a music video go viral! Nashville-based musicians Louisa Wendorff and Devin Dawson’s music video has so far received 8,874,221 views on Youtube with Taylor’s help by tweeting her 50 million followers.

The tweet, saying that she is “obsessed”, was in response to the Nashville duo’s acoustic mash-up of ‘Blank Space’ and ‘Style’ from Taylor’s 1989 album.

Taylor’s influence didn’t stop there. After spending hours stalking her fans on social media she hand-picked her most loyal fans and personally wrapped ‘Swiftmas’ presents which were delivered to their doorsteps!

Jamie McCartney, Brighton based artist, perhaps best known for ‘The Great Wall of Vagina’, has delved into photography with ‘The Sum of Our Parts’. The project was exhibited in November 2014 (Hove, U.K), featuring a series of portraits created from many individual body parts that were taken using a scanning machine.

‘The Sum of Our Parts,’ says Jamie,

protests against the pervasive body fascism that sickens our society. Avoiding any image manipulation or airbrushing they portray the beauty of natural bodies, shown as the Gods intended.

one small seed interviewed Jamie in 2011 about the 400 plaster casts he sculpted of women’s vulva’s (‘The Great Wall of Vagina’), his latest work continues to transcend the erotic and pornographic connotations that often come with creating art out of nudity.

BANKSY ARREST – we think not!

American National News published an article this morning (20 October 2014) claiming that the famous, yet anonymous, graffiti artist, activist, film director and painter – Banksy – has been arrested by London’s Metropolitan police. Banksy has been allegedly identified as 35 year old, Paul Horner, born in Liverpool.

The National News article has been shared by over 34.5K people on facebook within the first 4 hours of it being published. Some of the comments include:

‘Don’t the cops have anything else better to do than arrest such a prolific artist who has done so much good?’ shatstorm

‘I thought he was arrested in 2011… guess not. My thoughts and prayers go out to Banksy!’ Sly

one small seed did some research, and believe that this incident is just a re-hash of the hoax which occurred on February 22, 2013. The below picture’s are our case, and point:
