On July 6 2013 Mark Landwehr and Sven Waschk aka COARSE will release their latest creation ‘The Passage’ through Coarselife.com, a new and never-before-seen sculpture, which boasts a total length of 16” [40 cm] and height of 11” [27.5 cm]. The characters in this figure group include the catch Ruth, the seducer Void, and an omen as his henchman. This story marks the beginning of chapter two of the Souls Gone Mad series.

The sculpture catches Ruth, The Void, and Omen in the middle of a journey that will alter the course of all their lives. Having just woken up in her dream, Ruth has made her way through a murky forest, following the false promises of the bird-like omen who pledges he knows a boat that will take her home. Wary but eager to find safety, Ruth boards the rowboat. Little does she know about the frightening creature holding the oars and his plans to take her to a place from which he intends for her to never return.

The German artists behind coarse, Mark Landwehr and Sven Waschk, have become recognized by art collectors worldwide for their solo exhibitions in Chicago, Berlin, Munich, Bangkok and Taipei, showcasing original sculptures, paintings and photographs. Coarse – Friends Grow Apart

Executing another exhibition style piece in vinyl, Coarse brings their latest figure assemblage, “casting shadows” to light. It includes an original sculpt of definitive coarse character, noop, huddled in sorrow, and his new shellbound pet, nism, to illustrate the narrative of this contrasted set. The noop clings to a fabric kite reminiscent of long time friend, paw!, which soars above, casting his shadow onto the two characters. This lyrical piece allows you to set up the noop and nism in a situation of your own making, a captivating experience from coarse.

Haunted by the memories of a lost friendship, the noop struggles to continue, lost and helpless. His new companion, nism puts on his best colour to try and cheer up the noop, but his efforts are futile. The sun comes out and eclipses the hovering paw! kite, casting them into total blackness. A mystical moment, that could uplift the two beings from their loneliness. But how will they interpret this strange happening?

Slide open the heavy hand crafted cardboard box by pulling at the woven ‘noop’ and ‘nism’ tags. Uncover the box contents — two vinyl figures, the longing nism [4”] and huddled noop [7”]. Set up the fabric paw! kite, and let the noop hold the string tight in his hand. The paw! kite will float high in the sky [14”], casting his shadow onto the two torn friends. A set of c-o-a-r-s-e typographic leaves complete this scenery, full of desperation.
