While the clothes are coming off this side of the world, it’s all about the layers over in Europe. Colour, textures and crazy patterns too. It’s the Fall/Winter 2011-12 Ready-to-wear show of Manish Arora, who was inspired by the free spirit of a woman, one who is part gypsy and part new-age style icon. Meet the magical, powerful female who knows what she wants and isn’t afraid to get what she needs. She is elegant but edgy. She is born free. For this collection the talented designer has puts his hands together with the astonishing Berlin-based illustrator Amrei Hofstätter. Her illustrations exist out of abstract forms that are based on origami, which she then combines with surreal colors to create work that is mesmorizing and transcending. The prints of the garments are developed in collaboration with Hofstätter and are mixed with Manish’s world of bright colors and detailed hand embroideries. The fabrics in this season range from silk, velvet, net, suede, leather, silk, satins, wool, crepe, cotton, lycra, felt and fur.

With his vast knowledge of new materials Arora creates futuristic materials like the hand-cut velvet patchwork, pearl-coated fabric embroidery, three dimensional creations in origami, electrifying vinyl chip patterns and the usage of hand cross-stitched suede patchwork, which dominates the collection in some of the key pieces.

Bodycon shapes as well as classic shapes with an unusual twist like knee-length fur skirts, Bolero’s with over-sized puffed sleefs and futuristic corsets that are worn over the clothes. The Asian influence manifests itself in the hair of the models; it’s transformed into flat knots that portray hats, reminiscent of Manga dolls, like the prints. With such energy coming out of this collection, who knows what Arora has to offer us when the sun comes out… !
