The luxury retailer Barneys New York has dared to do something different for its new campaign Brothers, Sisters, Sons & Daughters and cast transgender models for a fashion shoot by Bruce Weber. According to Dennis Freedman, the creative director of Barneys, the transgender community has been neglected in recent history.

The fashion series will feature portraits of individuals such as Ryley Pogensky, a party promoter who identifies as genderqueer, signed model Valentijn de Hingh, who has undergone gender reassignment surgery or Katie Hill and Arin Andrews, who were in the global spotlight as a young transgender couple. What’s more, each photograph featured in the catalogue will be accompanied by an interview conducted by Vanity Fair‘s Patricia Bosworth. They’re also going to release video profiles of all models.
