George Washington once said, ‘Let us raise a standard to which the wise and honest can repair; the rest is in the hands of God.’ It’s truly a powerful quote said by one very iconic man, you can almost feel the power radiating from such an influential individual. Now imagine him with breasts on his face. It’s not a very effective saying now, is it?

Presidents with Boob Faces is a site containing artwork from American artist Emily Deutchman. The site (which is also her first solo exhibition) showcases 44 watercoloured portraitures of famous presidents sporting boobs on their faces, in George Bush’s case his entire face is just one huge breast. Deutchman has taken various art courses at The National Academy of Art and an intensive painting programme at the Columbia University’s School of the Arts.
What defines art? In Deutchman’s case, it was to mock the grandeur and seriousness of portraits that are made for people who have the right to be grandiose. This brings me to the question, ‘What is the purpose of art?’ Naturally art is always admired and cherished because of the movements it can possibly create and, on the flipside, its striking beauty.

Former president John F. Kennedy once said, ‘If art is to nourish the roots of our culture, society must set the artist free to follow his vision wherever it takes him.’
In the case of Emily Deutchman, she was set free to draw boobs on Kennedy’s face. Besides the fact that it’s really well painted and George Bush really was a boob, it’s hard to see the artwork for anything but good humour.
